Disciples in the Community of Christ have come to understand that transformation into the likeness of Jesus, requires regular discipline over our lifetimes. "Spiritual Formation" is the term used to describe being shaped into the likeness of Christ through inner and outer practices that center our life and identity in God and in the community of disciples. Spiritual formation is accomplished by the regular use of Spiritual Practices, which are also be known as Spiritual Disciplines.
Spiritual Practices are recognized patterns and practices that nurture spirituality, shape spiritual identity, and deepen discipleship in and through Jesus Christ. Our Christian heiritage is rich with a variety of Spiirtall Practices, which have proven helpful to Christians over the years.
Each disciple is on a unique journey with Christ. Even though we are joined by all belivers on this journey, no two disciples are exactly alike, so not surprisingly, a person may try several Spiritual Practices before finding the ones that nuture the image of Christ in their life. We are called to draw near to God. Some practices will naturally be more helpful in your journey than others. Your spiritual development may change over time, requiring a return to exploration of Spiritual Practices to continue the journey.
